Food: I’m just going to be up front; Whispering Canyon Cafe has some of my favorite food throughout all of Walt Disney World.  This dining experience offers that comfort food, “meat and potatoes”, western fare that I love.  That’s not all.  Whispering Canyon Cafe offers unbelievable portions and all-you-care-to-enjoy (bottomless) family meals that will leave any family of four content and satisfied.

Let’s get to the food!  First, Whispering Canyon has some of the best proteins on any Disney property.  If the bottomless offering is not your thing, you can still enjoy their steak or salmon but if your stomach can swing it, you do not want to miss their pork ribs or brisket.  Our family prefers “The Traditional” or “The Pig” but they do have an all-you-care-to-enjoy seafood offering and even a plant-based option. (Sorry, I’ve never tried the plant-based option.)

In regards to kids, our kids have always shared our bottomless selection but for kids 9 and under they have their own all-you-care-to-enjoy skillet and several kid-friendly options such as chicken breast, chicken nuggets, cheeseburger, or even some Mac N’Cheese.

Overall, Whispering Canyon’s food simply hits home with incredible quality and generous portions.  I’ve yet to find anything at this location that was not both delicious and filling.

Atmosphere:  You could talk about the food all day at Whispering Canyon but where you will see the separation of this dining options compared to others will be in the atmosphere and experience.  No Whispering Canyon is not a Character Dining Experience or is it heavily Disney-themed.  It flows very smoothly and naturally from the Wilderness Lodge theming into a Western themed restaurant that sparks the interests of any child but still maintains a level of expectation of a dining experience located in a deluxe resort.

Waiter and waitresses greet you somewhat within character (which we will speak more of in the “experience” section) and deliver drinks in mason jars while showering you with straws for a family of 10.  Now, I have heard that some of these nuances have been scaled back but to my understanding most of it remains intact.

Throughout your dining experience you will hear laughter, jokes, and possibly even see children riding hobby horses.  It’s simply a fun time.  When I think of walking into Whispering Canyon Cafe, the atmosphere is comparable to the best family BBQ filled with the smells of tender, slow-cooked ribs, and the sounds of a good time.

Experience:  I think it’s fair to say that you need to be willing to step out of your comfort zone a little bit.  Just as I discussed in the “atmosphere” section, there’s a lot of fun-filled, family activities going on.  While it may sound a little overwhelming, Whispering Canyon does a great job keeping the experience balanced with intentional pacing of activities making it obvious they are mindful of your overall dining experience.

During your time at Whispering Canyon you will typically experience one to two of their activities.  You can almost guarantee you will be asking for ketchup (please do) and then one other activity.  A couple of years ago, all of the men were asked to sing “I’m a Little Tea Pot” and the year after that, they invited the kids to ride hobby horses around the dining room.  You may experience one other activity but that’s really about it in a given hour to an hour and a half.  So it’s all in good fun!  You’ll have plenty of time to eat, you don’t have to do anything you do not want to, and if you are traveling with kids, they’re really going to enjoy all of the interactions and experiences during their time at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Cost: So now to the dollars and cents.  First, if you’re on the dining plan, it’s pretty straight forward.  With our family of four, if we each spent a credit we essentially received one of the bottomless meals, drinks, salad, bread, and dessert.  It’s more than you could ever eat and it’s incredibly good.  If you’re not on the dining plan, one of the all-you-care-to-enjoy fares are around $33.  To me, it’s one of the non-buffet deals around.  When you consider other vacation dining experiences such as dinner shows or any steak house level dining, I think you come out way ahead when you consider the amount and quality of the food in addition to all the dining touches.

Bottom Line:  Whispering Canyon Cafe is a family fun experience with excellent food and generous portions.  The personalized touch and character offered by each waiter and waitress in tandem with Whispering Canyon’s recurring activities provides a unique experience unlike any dining option.
